7-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Water-Filled Pit Near West Hills Mall
A heartbreaking incident occurred at Abuom Redtop, near the West Hills Mall, where a seven-year-old boy reportedly drowned after falling into a water-filled manhole pit.
According to eyewitnesses, the child was playing in the area when he accidentally slipped into the uncovered pit, which had collected rainwater. Residents quickly raised an alarm, and officers from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) rushed to the scene to carry out a rescue operation.
A video from the incident shows a man wading through the muddy water in an attempt to retrieve the boy, highlighting the dangerous conditions in which the tragedy unfolded.
Community members have since called on authorities and developers to ensure that all open pits and manholes in residential areas are properly covered to prevent further loss of life.
The boy’s body has been recovered, and investigations are ongoing.
