Tema Police Intercept Truck Carrying Over 3,000 Slabs of Suspected Narcotics; Two Arrested for Attempted Bribery

The Ghana Police Service has announced a major anti-narcotics operation following the interception of a truck loaded with suspected cannabis and the subsequent arrest of two individuals accused of attempting to bribe officers in Tema.


According to the Tema Regional Police Command, the intelligence-led operation took place in the early hours of February 15, 2026, at about 12:10 a.m. Officers from the Regional Patrols Unit intercepted a Sinotruck tipper truck with registration number GN 993-14 at Sege Akpla Manya in the Greater Accra Region.


A search of the vehicle revealed fertilizer sacks containing 3,009 slabs of plant material suspected to be cannabis. Upon spotting the police, the driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. The truck and its contents have since been impounded at the Tema Regional Headquarters to support ongoing investigations. Police say efforts are underway to identify and arrest the driver and confirm ownership of the vehicle.

In a related development, on February 16, 2026, at about 7:10 p.m., two suspects — Victor Asigbey, 40, and Peter Asigbey, 35 — were arrested at the Regional CID Office in Tema. The suspects allegedly attempted to bribe officers with GH¢150,000 in a bid to unlawfully secure the release of the impounded truck and the suspected narcotics.


Police retrieved the cash, which has been retained as evidence.


The suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court.


The Tema Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating narcotics-related crimes and maintaining integrity in law enforcement operations, assuring the public of continued vigilance in protecting communities.
