Bench Warrant Issued for Arrest of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako

A bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.


The warrant was reportedly issued after the outspoken party executive failed to appear before the court in his ongoing criminal trial without obtaining permission from the presiding judge.


According to court sources, Wontumi’s absence was deemed a deliberate disregard for the court’s authority, prompting the judge to order his immediate arrest to ensure his next appearance.


The case, which has attracted wide public and political attention, is still under investigation, and details surrounding the charges remain part of the ongoing legal process.


Meanwhile, party insiders say efforts are underway by his legal team to quash or suspend the warrant, citing health and procedural reasons for his absence.

A tragic road accident near the Kasoa Tollbooth in the Central Region has left several people feared dead and many others in critical condition after a minibus collided with a reversing Jeep early Sunday morning. According to eyewitnesses, a Sprinter minibus (GW 7455-18) heading towards Kasoa crashed into a Jeep 4×4 (GR 7673) which was reportedly reversing on the main highway. The collision caused the minibus to somersault several times before landing on its side, trapping many passengers inside. Rescue teams from the Ghana National Fire Service and Police quickly arrived at the scene to assist, while Good Samaritans joined efforts to free those trapped in the mangled vehicle.
