Abronye Fires Back: “I’m a Regional Chairman, Not a Member of Bawumia’s Campaign Team for Him to Control Me”

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe — popularly known as Abronye — has once again stirred political debate with a bold declaration distancing himself from Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign machinery.

Speaking in response to critics, Abronye emphasized that as an elected regional chairman, he is not answerable to any individual campaign team, insisting that his authority stems from the party structure — not from Dr. Bawumia or any presidential hopeful.

> “I don’t work for Bawumia. I’m not his personal assistant. A regional chairman is above that — no one can control me,” Abronye stated firmly.

His comments come amid rising tension within the NPP following recent verbal exchanges between him and Dr. Richard Anane. Abronye accused Anane of spreading falsehoods about him, warning that he would not stay silent when attacked.

> “If anyone throws lies at me, I’ll respond. I’m not part of any campaign team; I serve the party and the grassroots who elected me,” he added.

The outspoken chairman’s remarks highlight deepening internal frictions between elected regional executives and campaign operatives of the Vice President. While Bawumia’s campaign seeks to consolidate support nationwide, Abronye’s stance underscores growing calls for autonomy and respect for party structures.

Political analysts believe his comments reflect broader tensions within the NPP, as some regional leaders push back against what they perceive as overreach by the presidential campaign team.

Despite criticism, Abronye remains resolute, maintaining that his loyalty lies with the New Patriotic Party — not any individual aspirant.

His statement has since sparked heated discussions among party faithful and political observers, many of whom view it as a sign of the internal power struggles that could shape the NPP’s unity ahead of the 2028 general elections.
