The Ghana Navy has arrested ten Nigerian nationals who were found aboard a Panamanian-registered vessel, MV Grand Venus, at Tema Port, Ghana’s main seaport.
According to a statement from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), the arrest occurred approximately eight nautical miles from Tema after the vessel sent out a distress call. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had illegally boarded the ship while it was docked at Lagos Port in Nigeria.
The Navy escorted the ship to Tema Harbour, located about 25 kilometers east of Accra, where the suspects were handed over to Port Control, the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Marine Police Unit for further investigations.
The Armed Forces noted that additional details will be made public as the investigation progresses.
