A heartbreaking scene unfolded in Nsawam, Eastern Region, as tragedy struck during a funeral ceremony on Saturday.
According to eyewitness reports, mourners had gathered to pay their final respects to a popular Okada rider, when a heavy-duty articulator truck carrying a 40-foot container reportedly suffered brake failure and lost control.
The truck veered off the main road and crashed into the crowd, instantly killing eight people and leaving over 30 others severely injured. Many victims are said to have sustained serious fractures and amputations due to the impact.
Emergency responders and local residents rushed to the scene to rescue survivors, transporting them to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. The Nsawam Police have since begun investigations into the cause of the crash, while the vehicle involved has been impounded.
Eyewitnesses described the incident as one of the most horrifying accidents the community has witnessed in recent times.
Authorities are appealing for blood donations to support the victims currently receiving treatment.
