A tragic accident occurred Wednesday evening when a middle-aged man was crushed to death by a Tema–Mpakadan moving train in the Bediako enclave, close to Afienya in the Greater Accra Region.
According to video footage captured by the train’s onboard camera, the man — whose identity is yet to be confirmed — was walking along the railway tracks as the train approached. Despite repeated horn warnings from the operator, he failed to move off the line, leading to the fatal collision.
The incident happened around 4:15 p.m., involving the Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU2) train traveling toward Afienya. Police from the Community 25 Division responded swiftly and conveyed the body to the Tema General Hospital for identification and autopsy.
The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has expressed deep regret over the loss of life and has launched an investigation into the tragic event. The Authority has also cautioned the public to avoid walking or loitering along rail tracks, warning that such actions pose extreme danger.
This marks another disturbing incident along the Tema–Mpakadan railway line, highlighting the urgent need for community awareness and safety education to prevent future tragedies.
