Security forces in the Northern Region have successfully rescued a 42-year-old man who was allegedly kidnapped by a group of armed men who later demanded a GH¢100,000 ransom. The dramatic operation took place at Bakpaba, ending in a heated exchange of gunfire between the suspects and the police.

How the Incident Unfolded

According to police sources, the victim was abducted earlier in the week by a four-member gang believed to be operating across parts of the Northern Region. After holding the man hostage, the kidnappers reportedly contacted his family and demanded a GH¢100,000 ransom for his release.

The victim’s family immediately alerted the police, prompting an intelligence-led operation to track down the kidnappers’ hideout.

Gunfire Exchange at Bakpaba

Police deployed a tactical team to the area after narrowing down the suspects’ location. Upon arrival, the officers were met with heavy gunfire from the kidnappers, leading to a fierce confrontation.

Despite the intense exchange, the police overpowered the gang, arresting three suspects at the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest that a fourth suspect, who managed to escape, may have sustained gunshot wounds and is currently being pursued.

Victim Rescued, Investigation Underway

The 42-year-old victim was safely rescued during the operation and is receiving appropriate care. Police have assured the public that efforts are underway to track down the fleeing suspect and dismantle any kidnapping networks in the region.

Police Appeal to the Public

Authorities are urging residents within Bakpaba and surrounding communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals, especially anyone seen with unexplained gunshot wounds.

The arrest of the three suspects marks a major breakthrough in the fight against rising cases of kidnapping in certain parts of the Northern Region.
