The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted thirty (30) officers of the Ghana Police Service in recognition of their exceptional professionalism and bravery during critical security operations in the Ashanti Region.

The promotions, effected on Sunday, 5 January 2025, follow successful police operations that led to the interception of 2,600 rounds of AK-47 ammunition at the Kantanso–Asankare Police Barrier and the dismantling of a dangerous robbery syndicate operating along the Antoakrom–Manso Nkwanta stretch during the Christmas season.

According to the Police Administration, the officers distinguished themselves through vigilance, discipline, and unwavering commitment to duty at a time when criminal activities typically escalate due to increased festive movement.

During the operation, officers conducted a meticulous search on a bus at the police barrier, leading to the discovery of two concealed containers holding 2,600 rounds of AK-47 ammunition. Further inspection revealed a bag hidden beneath the driver’s seat containing two bulletproof plates, a black crushed helmet, and a pair of long boots—items believed to be linked to planned criminal activity.

Police authorities noted that the interception potentially prevented the weapons from reaching criminal networks, averting serious threats to public safety.

In addition to the Kantanso–Asankare team, twenty other personnel from the Intelligence Units of the Ashanti Regional and Ashanti South Regional Police Commands were promoted for their roles in intelligence-led operations at Manso Nkwanta, Antoakrom, and surrounding communities.

These coordinated operations resulted in the recovery of firearms and ammunition, the disruption of armed robbery syndicates, and the prevention of planned attacks on commuters along major road networks during the festive period.

The IGP, together with members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), commended the officers for their courage, alertness, and exemplary conduct. Mr. Yohuno emphasized that their actions directly contributed to safeguarding lives and maintaining peace during a high-risk period.

He urged all personnel of the Ghana Police Service to continue upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity, reaffirming the Police Administration’s commitment to recognizing, appreciating, and rewarding hard work and dedication.

The promotions serve as both recognition and motivation, reinforcing the Service’s resolve to combat crime and protect citizens across the country.
