The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man at Ablekuma in the Greater Accra Region over the alleged possession of suspected counterfeit foreign currency and an unauthorised firearm.
The arrest was carried out by the National Operations Directorate Surveillance Unit following intelligence reports that a self-styled fetish priest in the area was allegedly engaged in criminal activities and unlawfully possessed a firearm. According to the police, the suspect was considered a potential threat to residents within the community.
The suspect, identified as Josiah Elorm Kwame Amezado, was apprehended after officers conducted a targeted operation based on the intelligence gathered. A subsequent search of his room led to the retrieval of several items, including quantities of US dollar notes in one-hundred-dollar denominations suspected to be counterfeit.
In addition to the currency, officers recovered a pair of handcuffs, a black vest, a Kuzey A100 blank pistol, and fifty-eight rounds of 9mm blank ammunition. The discovery of these items has raised concerns about the suspect’s activities and possible intentions.
Police have indicated that the suspect is currently in custody assisting with investigations. Authorities are working to determine the authenticity and source of the foreign currency and to establish the circumstances under which the firearm and ammunition were acquired.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that it remains committed to intelligence-led operations aimed at preventing crime and ensuring public safety. Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
