The Koforidua New Juabeng South District Police Command has arrested thirteen suspected prostitutes, a landlord, and a bouncer following an operation linked to alleged human trafficking and assault within the municipality.
According to the District Police Commander, Superintendent Ransford Nsiah, the arrests were triggered after reports surfaced that a young apprentice involved in prostitution was physically assaulted by her madam for failing to meet a daily sales target of Ghc400. The incident reportedly occurred in Koforidua and drew public attention after details of the ordeal emerged.
Police investigations led to a targeted operation at a suspected brothel, resulting in the arrest of twelve Nigerian nationals and one Ghanaian woman believed to be operating under organized prostitution arrangements. Authorities also apprehended the landlord of the premises and a bouncer alleged to have facilitated the activities on the property.

Preliminary findings suggest possible offences including human trafficking, assault, operating a brothel, permitting a minor to engage in prostitution, and trading in prostitution. Superintendent Nsiah indicated that the command is taking the matter seriously, particularly the allegation involving a minor, which carries significant legal consequences under Ghanaian law.
The police further disclosed that the victims are receiving the necessary support while investigations continue to determine the full scope of the operation, including whether the suspects were part of a larger trafficking network.
All suspects are currently in custody and are expected to be processed for court as investigations proceed.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals, urging the public to report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies promptly.
