A quiet evening in the Binduri District of Ghana’s Upper East Region turned tragic on Sunday, October 26, 2025, when unknown gunmen opened fire on residents, leaving three people dead and two others battling for their lives.
The attack happened around 7 p.m. at Sakpari, a small community within Binduri. Eyewitnesses say the armed men stormed a family home and began shooting without warning. Among the dead is a five-year-old child, while the injured include George Bukari, the manager of Maxx Empire Radio & TV, who is currently receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.
Residents describe the incident as one of the deadliest in recent months. They believe the shooting could be linked to ongoing tensions connected to the long-running Bawku conflict, a regional dispute rooted in chieftaincy and ethnic divisions.
The assailants escaped after the attack, and their identities remain unknown. In the aftermath, reports indicate that a house belonging to a local Member of Parliament was set ablaze, heightening fears of possible retaliation.
Local authorities and security agencies are yet to issue an official statement, but police patrols have reportedly been increased in the area to prevent further violence.
Community members have called for swift action from the government and security services, urging them to protect civilians and prevent Binduri and its surrounding towns from slipping deeper into conflict.
The Binduri shooting has once again drawn attention to the growing insecurity in northern Ghana and the urgent need for peaceful resolution of communal tensions that continue to claim innocent lives.
