According to the farmers, the chief and his elders are allegedly planning to destroy the farmland to pave the way for the construction of a residential estate. The aggrieved farmers say this move threatens their livelihoods and the long-term productivity of the community, which relies heavily on cocoa cultivation.
They are appealing to the government, the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), and all relevant stakeholders to intervene urgently to prevent what they describe as an unlawful takeover. The farmers insist that the land has been under cultivation for years and that losing it would have devastating economic consequences for their families and the community.
The protest has heightened tensions in the area as farmers vow to resist any attempt to replace their cocoa farms with private estate development.
