The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Victor Benjamin Fejemirokum, was picked up during an intelligence-led police operation in Akyem Wenchi, a community near Akwatia in Ghana’s Eastern Region. According to police reports, the fugitive had been hiding in a friend's residence after fleeing Nigeria.
The case drew significant public attention after a disturbing video linked to the crime circulated online, prompting heightened cooperation between Ghanaian and Nigerian security agencies. The Ghana Police, after confirming his identity, immediately initiated extradition processes to hand him over to authorities in Nigeria for further investigation and prosecution.
Authorities described the arrest as a critical moment in strengthening regional security collaboration. Ghana’s police leadership emphasized that such operations demonstrate the country’s commitment to ensuring that fugitives do not find safe haven within its borders.
The Police further urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities, especially in communities where foreign nationals may be residing without proper documentation.
The suspect remains in police custody as arrangements continue for his transfer to Nigerian security officials.
