Ghana’s Vice Former President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has once again reaffirmed his commitment to public service, saying his decision to enter politics was driven by the desire to help people — not to enrich himself.
Speaking to party delegates during his campaign tour of Amenfi West in the Western Region, Dr. Bawumia said he takes pride in delivering initiatives that directly improve the lives of Ghanaians rather than accumulating personal wealth.
> “I did not enter politics to make money. If that was my goal, I would have so much by now — but it would have come at the expense of the nation. My greatest joy comes from seeing how our policies are transforming lives,”
— Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
Dr. Bawumia highlighted several achievements of the Akufo-Addo administration, particularly the Mobile Money Interoperability Project, which he says saved the country millions of dollars.
According to him, an earlier proposal for the same project was estimated at $1.2 billion, but under his supervision, it was completed at a cost of just $4.5 million — a move he believes reflects prudent leadership and integrity in governance.
> “We delivered the same results at a fraction of the cost. That’s the kind of leadership Ghana needs — efficient, transparent, and focused on service,” he added.
As he intensifies his campaign to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections, Dr. Bawumia urged delegates to judge him by his track record and values, not propaganda.
He stressed that his political journey has always been about bringing innovation and digital transformation to government — from digitizing public services to ensuring financial inclusion through technology.
> “Leadership is about impact, not self-enrichment. I am in this to serve, not to take,” he reiterated.
Dr. Bawumia’s message appears to be part of a broader strategy to project himself as a clean, competent, and service-oriented leader, amid growing concerns among voters about corruption and political greed.
His remarks come at a crucial moment when NPP delegates are assessing the credibility and vision of those vying to succeed President Akufo-Addo as flagbearer for the 2028 elections.
