The viral post alleged that he made a disparaging comment about one of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirants, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, stating:
> “We need someone with mental fortitude to be president, not one who will require injections in order to chair cabinet meetings — Bawumia’s Aide Kwesi Botchway Jnr fires Kennedy Agyapong.”
In a detailed statement released on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Mr. Botchway categorically denied ever making such a statement, describing it as false, fabricated, and malicious.
> “I have not granted any interview with JoyNews or any of its affiliates, nor have I made such a comment on any platform. I did not insult any aspirant, and my comments were strictly about the kind of leadership qualities our party needs as we look to 2028 and beyond,” he clarified.
He revealed that Joy FM’s official Twitter page has since deleted the said publication, confirming that the information was inaccurate and unsubstantiated.
> “At no point have I fired Kennedy Agyapong. I haven’t referred to him in any media interview. Those attributing my comments to Hon. Ken are doing so for their own mischievous and ungodly pleasure,” he added.
Mr. Botchway clarified that he appeared on Movement TV on Monday, November 10, 2025, with Gordon Asare-Bediako as the host. He stated that at no point during that interview did he insult or make any disparaging remarks about any NPP presidential aspirant.
According to him, his comments were purely about the type of leadership qualities the NPP should prioritize ahead of the 2028 general elections.
> “I said the NPP delegates need a leader who can unite the party, one who brings people together rather than divides them. Leadership is not about having what some people call ‘street cred,’” he explained.
He further emphasized that politics should not be about aggression or reckless displays of toughness, warning that such traits could endanger good governance.
> “When you aspire to be President, you don’t need ‘street cred.’ Once you become President, the entire military and state apparatus are under your command. If such a person is easily provoked, the consequences could be disastrous.”
Mr. Botchway reiterated that both the NPP and Ghana as a whole need leaders who possess emotional intelligence and mental resilience — those who can remain calm even in the face of provocation.
He expressed concern about politicians who mock or insult others based on their financial or social standing, saying such attitudes are divisive and unhelpful.
> “A person who insults or looks down on others because of their economic status does not have the temperament for leadership. Our focus should be on unity, humility, and service.”
He also called on members of the NPP to remain united, stressing that the party’s strength lies in its togetherness.
> “When some of our members face challenges, we should not say they are on their own. The NPP is one family. Our strength lies in our unity,” he emphasized.
Mr. Botchway revealed that he has informed his lawyers about the matter and warned that he will not hesitate to take legal action should the false publications continue.
He appealed to media outlets, bloggers, and the general public to verify information before publishing or sharing, in order to protect the integrity of public discourse.
> “I remain committed to constructive, decent, and issue-based political communication that promotes unity within our party and contributes to Ghana’s democratic growth. Let us all verify before we share.”
