Kibi Murder Case: Police Arrest Carpenter Over Fatal Cutlass Attack on College Security Guard

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into a shocking murder incident at Kibi after arresting a 37-year-old carpenter, Kwame Arhin, also known as Abompe. The suspect was picked up on Sunday, November 16, 2025, following the killing of a security guard attached to the Kibi Presbyterian College of Education.

The arrest came less than 24 hours after police received a distress call on Saturday, November 15, 2025, reporting the suspected murder of a male adult in Kibi Newtown. Immediately, teams of detectives, including the Crime Scene Management Unit, were dispatched to the area near the Kibi Court Complex to begin investigations.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the lifeless body of a man later identified as Jonas Baah Sarpong. The victim’s body was found with severe injuries consistent with an attack involving a sharp weapon. Police processed the crime scene before transporting the body to the Kibi Government Hospital morgue. It was later transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra for preservation and a detailed autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

According to preliminary findings, the deceased, Jonas Sarpong, was a security guard at the Kibi Presbyterian College of Education. Early police investigations suggest that a misunderstanding erupted between him and the suspect, Kwame Arhin. What began as a dispute reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation, during which the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with a cutlass, slashing his throat before fleeing the scene.

The police quickly initiated a search operation, leading to Arhin’s arrest at a bushy area near the college. Authorities say the suspect attempted to escape but was captured through coordinated efforts by detectives and patrol officers.

The Eastern South Regional Police Command says the suspect is currently in custody and being processed for court as part of ongoing investigations. Officials assure the public that every effort is being made to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure justice for the deceased and his family.

DSP David Fianko-Okyere of the Public Affairs Unit signed the official police statement, urging the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement as the case progresses.
