Motorcycle Courier Union Appeals to NYA CEO, Raises Concern Over Tesano MTTD Actions

The Motorcycle Courier Union of Ghana (MCUG) has expressed deep appreciation to the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Osman Ayariga, for acknowledging the crucial role motorcyclists play in national development—especially in the ongoing campaign against drug abuse.

According to the union, the CEO’s recognition of the potential of bikers to contribute to a safer and drug-free Ghana is a major source of motivation. MCUG says its members remain committed to supporting the NYA’s efforts in combating drug abuse and empowering young people across the country.

However, alongside the commendation, the union has drawn attention to a pressing challenge currently affecting its members. MCUG reports that 47 of its riders have been unable to work for more than a month due to actions taken by officers of the Tesano Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service.

The union warns that these prolonged job losses have increased financial strain on affected riders and exposed them to heightened risks of social and economic vulnerabilities.

MCUG is therefore calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to intervene and educate police officers on the importance of collaborating with motorcycle couriers, rather than harassing them. The union stressed that delivery riders play a significant role in Ghana’s growing digital and logistics economy, and hindering their work only worsens the challenges facing young people.

The union says it is ready to partner with state institutions to build a better Ghana—one where youth are empowered, engaged, and protected.

The appeal was signed by MCUG General Secretary, Abugri Timothy Agengri.
