NAIMOS has handed over 230 water pumps seized from illegal miners to the Ministry of Agriculture to support regulated farming activities

The National Independent Mining Oversight Secretariat (NAIMOS) has officially handed over 230 water pumps seized from illegal miners to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in a renewed effort to channel confiscated resources into productive and regulated sectors.

The pumps, originally impounded during anti-galamsey operations across several mining zones, will now be repurposed to support irrigation projects, smallholder farmers, and community-based agricultural initiatives. According to officials, this move forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen food production while curbing the rampant misuse of water-extraction machinery in mining activities.

The Ministry of Agriculture is expected to distribute the pumps to selected farming groups, irrigation schemes, and government-approved agricultural programmes. Authorities say the initiative will enhance dry-season farming, boost crop yields, and reduce the financial burden on farmers who often struggle to access essential irrigation equipment.

NAIMOS further emphasized that the repurposing of seized equipment is a sustainable approach to recovering national assets and redirecting them toward development-oriented uses instead of leaving them idle.

The collaboration marks another step in Ghana’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining while promoting regulated, responsible, and productive use of the country’s natural resources.
