Police Council Extends IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno’s Tenure by Two Years as He Approaches 60

The Police Council has officially approved a two-year extension for the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, as he prepares to mark his 60th birthday on December 27. This decision ensures that Dr. Yohuno will continue to lead the Ghana Police Service beyond the mandatory retirement age.

The extension underscores the Council’s confidence in his leadership, especially at a time when national security demands consistency, reform, and steady command. Since assuming office, the IGP has been credited with strengthening internal discipline, improving police visibility, and pushing for modernization across various units of the service.

With the extension in effect, Dr. Yohuno is expected to continue steering key policing reforms, including community-focused strategies, crime prevention initiatives, and technological enhancement of operational systems. His continued leadership also provides stability as the country navigates a period of increased security expectations and public demand for institutional accountability.

The Police Council’s decision allows the IGP to maintain his momentum in driving transformation within the service, ensuring that ongoing projects are not disrupted by leadership transition.
