Ghana Police Investigate Viral Video of American Woman Claiming She Was Kidnapped and Robbed by Alleged Officers

The Ghana Police Service has launched a full investigation into a viral video involving an American woman identified as Arianna Naomi Mackey, who claimed she was kidnapped and robbed by individuals she alleged to be officers of the Ghana Police Service.

The video, which circulated widely on social media, drew significant public attention as the woman narrated how she was abducted by five masked men said to be on snap-check duty in Accra. She further alleged that these men took an undisclosed amount of money from her before letting her go.

Police Begin Investigations

According to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), preliminary findings show that the video was recorded at a hotel in Accra where Ms. Mackey had been lodging with two companions. Investigators confirmed that she checked out on December 5th, 2025, and left Ghana the same day, as verified by checks at the Kotoka International Airport.

Efforts to Reach the Alleged Victim

Police say they contacted Ms. Mackey after the video went viral, seeking her cooperation to assist with the investigation. However, she told officers that she was already out of the country and could not identify the masked men, nor recall the vehicle they allegedly used.

Investigators also requested the contact details of a friend who was supposedly with her during the alleged incident. Ms. Mackey claimed the friend preferred not to get involved in the case.

Communication Breaks Down

Authorities revealed that Ms. Mackey has since deleted the video from her social media page. Attempts to reach her through WhatsApp calls and messages were unsuccessful, as she reportedly stopped responding and later blocked the police investigation team.

Diplomatic Channels Activated

The Ghana Police Service has stated that efforts are underway to reach her through appropriate diplomatic channels to obtain her cooperation and clarify the claims made in the viral video.

Police Assure Public of Thorough Investigation

In a statement signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, the CID emphasized that the Service takes such allegations seriously and is committed to uncovering the truth behind the claims.

The police further urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue to determine the authenticity of the allegations and whether any officers were involved.
