• Police Arrest Two School Staff Over Theft of Students’ Food at Sefwi Bekwai STEM SHS

The Western North Regional Police Command has arrested two staff members of the Sefwi Bekwai STEM Senior High School at Awaso over the alleged theft of large quantities of food items meant for students.

The suspects, identified as Bennedicta Nyamadi, a matron, and Rahel Kyeremateng, a cook, were arrested on December 23, 2025, following intelligence gathered by the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) on the night of December 22.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a joint security team made up of Police officers, the Member of Parliament for the area, and the Municipal Chief Executive proceeded to Sefwi Atronsu, where a search was conducted at the residence of suspect Rahel Kyeremateng.

The search uncovered large quantities of food items suspected to have been stolen from the school’s food store, hidden in the suspect’s home. Preliminary investigations indicate that the two suspects allegedly conspired to divert the food supplies for personal gain, with plans to sell them at a later date.

During interrogation, Rahel Kyeremateng reportedly identified Bennedicta Nyamadi as the source of the stolen food, leading to Nyamadi’s arrest at the school premises.

One Suspect Still at Large

Police say efforts are ongoing to track down an assistant matron, identified as Hannah Dufie, who is alleged to have played a role in the theft but is currently on the run.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court as investigations continue.
