The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team has successfully rescued a young woman who was allegedly kidnapped and unlawfully detained for four days at Dalogu Yili, a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis.
The rescue operation was launched after a distress call was received at about 9:00 a.m. on Thursday by the Commander of Operations of the IGP Special Operations Team, DSP Bawah Abdul Jalil. The report indicated that the victim, identified as Haruna Adamu, was being held against her will by a suspect known as Fuseini Ibrahim, a resident of the community.
Acting swiftly on directives from the command, a special team led by Chief Inspector Abdullai Tahiru proceeded to the suspect’s residence. Upon arrival, officers found the suspect in the company of the victim.
The suspect was arrested without resistance, and the victim was safely rescued.
Both individuals were immediately conveyed to the Northern Regional Police Command for further action. Police authorities confirmed that the suspect has since been handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID), where he is currently in detention to assist with ongoing investigations.
The victim was later released into the care of her parents after they were formally invited to the Command.
Following the successful operation, the IGP Special Operations Team resumed routine patrols across the Tamale Metropolis as part of enhanced security measures put in place for the festive season.
