The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intensified its nationwide offensive against illicit drug trafficking with the arrest of a woman alleged to be a key figure in the drug trade operating within Buduburam and surrounding communities in the Gomoa East Municipality of the Central Region.
The arrest followed a coordinated intelligence-led operation carried out on Friday, January 16, 2026. According to NACOC, the exercise forms part of broader efforts to dismantle entrenched drug networks and curb the growing threat of drug abuse across the country.
The prime suspect, identified as 32-year-old Rebecca Afia Naa Dei Kotei, popularly known as “Mother,” was apprehended after weeks of surveillance. Intelligence gathered by NACOC reportedly linked her to the distribution of multiple controlled substances within the enclave and nearby areas.
During the operation, officers retrieved quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis and tramadol, along with other controlled drugs. Items believed to be used in drug peddling and distribution were also seized from locations connected to the suspect.
In addition to the main arrest, several other individuals were picked up during the raid and are currently assisting investigators as efforts continue to unravel the full scope of the alleged network.
NACOC has reiterated that all suspects remain innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law. The Commission further assured the public of its resolve to sustain pressure on drug trafficking syndicates and protect communities from the social and security risks associated with illicit drugs.
