Police have arrested a Nigerian national, identified as Charles Adenkule, at the Kpotame barrier along the Accra–Sogakope highway for allegedly possessing suspected cocaine valued at GH¢1,032,650.
According to police sources, the arrest was made during a routine security operation at the checkpoint. Officers reportedly intercepted a black Liberty Jeep being driven by the suspect. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of substances believed to be cocaine.
Preliminary estimates place the street value of the seized drugs at over one million Ghana cedis. The suspect was immediately taken into custody to assist with investigations.
Police further disclosed that during the arrest process, the suspect allegedly attempted to bribe officers with US$20,000 in an effort to avoid detention. The officers reportedly declined the offer and proceeded with the arrest in accordance with the law.
The seized substances have been secured for forensic examination, while investigations continue to determine the source and intended destination of the suspected narcotics.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to combating drug trafficking and corruption, emphasizing that any individual found culpable will face the full rigours of the law.
