The Ghana Police Service has arrested two alleged ringleaders of a notorious highway robbery gang believed to be responsible for a series of violent crimes across the country, including armed robberies and a reported murder.

The suspects, identified as Kwame Bediako, popularly known as “Star Boy,” and Kofi Ishmael, are said to have led an organized criminal network that operated between 2023 and 2025. Police investigations indicate that the gang targeted motorists, trailer drivers, civilians, and at least one police officer during their operations.

According to official police sources, the gang carried out coordinated attacks along several major highways and strategic routes. These include the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Suhum, Nkawkaw, Juaso, and sections of the Kumasi corridor. The suspects allegedly used firearms and other dangerous weapons to intimidate victims and forcefully take valuables.

During the arrest operations, police recovered firearms, ammunition, and additional weapons believed to have been used in the commission of the crimes. Several accomplices connected to the gang have also been arrested as part of the ongoing security operation.

The Police Service has confirmed that some members of the gang are still on the run. Intelligence-led operations are continuing to track down the remaining suspects and dismantle the network completely.

Authorities have assured the public of their commitment to improving highway security and urged citizens, particularly motorists and commercial drivers, to cooperate with law enforcement by providing credible information that can aid investigations.

Further updates are expected as investigations progress and suspects are processed through the legal system.
