Arms Seizure in Adabraka Robbery Raises Fresh Questions About Urban Crime Networks
The Ghana Police Service has arrested two additional suspects in connection with the recent armed robbery at a jewellery shop in Adabraka, Accra, following a targeted intelligence-led operation that also led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and other items believed to be linked to criminal activity.
The arrests were carried out through the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP). The suspects have been identified as Hamza Agerego, also known as Nene Bawku or Lambert, and Alhassan Elliasu, also known as Arab Man.
According to police sources, Hamza Agerego was initially arrested and detained at the Katamanso District Police Headquarters in relation to the Adabraka jewellery shop robbery. Further intelligence gathered during investigations pointed to additional accomplices and locations connected to the crime.
Acting on this intelligence, a follow-up operation was conducted at Ashaiman on Tuesday, 7 January 2026, leading to the arrest of the second suspect, Alhassan Elliasu, at his hideout.
A search of the premises yielded a significant cache of weapons and other items. Police recovered two pump-action guns, 43 rounds of AK47 ammunition, and 239 BB cartridges, raising serious concerns about the level of firepower allegedly linked to the robbery network. Also retrieved were four bulletproof vests, two cutlasses, one black boot, and one black face mask, items police believe may have been used or intended for criminal operations.
In addition to the weapons, officers recovered two Samsung mobile phones, one iPhone 13, a wristwatch, and a CCTV monitor, all of which are expected to aid ongoing investigations, particularly in tracing communications, movements, and possible links to other criminal activities.
Both suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with investigations. The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that they will be arraigned before court in due course to face the full rigours of the law.
The Police Service has reiterated its commitment to intensifying intelligence-driven operations to dismantle armed robbery networks and ensure the safety and security of the public, especially in commercial areas that have recently come under threat.
