• Ashanti Police Probe Alleged Pre-Thumb-Printed Ballots Linked to Ruling Party Primaries
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commenced investigations following the discovery of a quantity of ballot papers suspected to be connected to the New Patriotic Party’s ongoing internal primaries.
According to police sources, intelligence received at approximately 8:30 a.m. on 30 January 2026 indicated that suspected ballot materials had been concealed in an uncompleted four-bedroom building at Aburaso, within the Kumasi enclave. Acting on the tip-off, the Regional Crime Scene Management Team proceeded to the location to verify the information and secure the premises.
A search of the structure led to the retrieval of a box of ballot papers hidden in one of the incomplete washrooms. Preliminary examination and counting confirmed a total of 942 ballot papers. Of these, 609 had already been thumb-printed in favour of one candidate, while 333 were found unused.
The materials have since been secured and handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department for further forensic analysis and detailed investigations.
Police say efforts are underway to establish the source of the ballot papers and the circumstances surrounding their concealment. The Command has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding law and order, as well as safeguarding the integrity of electoral and internal political party processes in the region.
Residents and relevant stakeholders have been urged to remain calm and cooperate fully with security agencies as investigations continue.
