Security sources say officers acted on intelligence received on February 13, 2026, indicating that a cargo truck transporting suspected narcotics would travel from Hohoe through the Likpe–Jasikan enclave toward Nkwanta between February 13 and 16. Surveillance was mounted along the route as part of efforts to intercept the vehicle.

At about 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 15, officers spotted a stationary Benz cargo truck with registration number GS 3831-09 at Bodada and moved in to stop and search it. The vehicle was being driven by 50-year-old Amrado Justice Nelson, with 25-year-old Onaneye Yussif on board.

During the search, police detected a concealed compartment within the truck. A welder was called to cut open the hidden section in the presence of the suspects and officers. Inside, authorities retrieved 1,482 compressed parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, carefully packed and hidden to evade detection.

Police reported that amid the discovery, the driver allegedly offered GH¢80,000 to the officers in an attempt to secure their release and prevent the seizure. The officers declined the offer and proceeded with the arrest.

The two suspects are currently in custody, the truck has been impounded, and the retrieved parcels have been kept as exhibits pending further forensic examination and investigations.

The operation was led by DSP Gideon Sena Zowonu and ASP Mathew Avemee, supported by a team including Chief Inspector Dennis Felli, Inspector Nobel Adjabeng Quarcoo, Detective Inspector Charles Doe Tetteh, General Lance Corporal Anthony Kyei Frimpong, General Lance Corporal Stephen Konlan Biiche, and General Constable Emmanuel Gbortse.

Law enforcement sources say the scale and concealment method suggest the shipment may be linked to a wider trafficking network operating across district corridors. Investigations are ongoing to determine the origin, ownership, and intended destination of the suspected narcotics.

The officers’ refusal of the alleged bribe has drawn commendation from observers, who view the action as a sign of professionalism and integrity in the fight against drug trafficking and corruption.
