Former Deputy Finance Minister Abena Osei-Asare Fires Back at Sam George Over “Financial Mismanagement” Claims at PAC

A heated moment unfolded during the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) hearing when Former Deputy Finance Minister Abena Osei-Asare clashed with Ningo-Prampram MP, Sam George, over his remarks accusing the Akufo-Addo administration of financial mismanagement.

Sam George, during deliberations, mentioned Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, claiming they were at the heart of Ghana’s current economic woes.

But Abena Osei-Asare swiftly interjected, visibly displeased by his comments.

She fired back:

> “Stop it right there and go straight to the question. Don’t do name-calling because you’ve been in this position before, and I’ve also been in your position.”

Her response drew murmurs from other committee members as the exchange briefly disrupted proceedings. The chair later urged calm for the session to continue.

This latest confrontation underscores the deep political tensions over Ghana’s economic management, with members of both sides defending or attacking the government’s fiscal record ahead of the 2026 election season.
