Former NPA Boss Mustapha Hamid Sues OSP, Demands ₵20 Million for Defamation

Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has filed a lawsuit against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), seeking ₵20 million in damages for alleged defamation.

According to the suit, Dr. Hamid contends that the OSP’s recent publication implicating him in alleged procurement irregularities was false, malicious, and intended to tarnish his hard-earned reputation. The former NPA boss argues that the OSP acted recklessly by releasing information to the public without due diligence or providing him the opportunity to respond before publication.

Dr. Hamid, who served as Information Minister and later as NPA CEO, maintains that the allegations have caused him immense emotional distress and reputational damage. He is therefore praying the court to order the OSP to retract the statement, issue a public apology, and pay ₵20 million as general damages for defamation.

The case adds to growing tensions between public officials and the Special Prosecutor’s office over recent corruption-related investigations and public disclosures.
