Speaking on the ongoing battle, he disclosed that some illegal miners allegedly undergo spiritual fortification, making it difficult for bullets to penetrate their bodies during armed confrontations.
According to him, officers sometimes have to shoot back in self-defense, but the miners’ supposed spiritual protection prevents the bullets from causing harm. He added that the team is often forced to focus on removing the miners’ talismans and amulets before they can be subdued.
The statement highlights yet another complex layer in Ghana’s fight against galamsey, where security operations are already plagued by danger, resistance, and sophisticated illegal networks.
