Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has revealed his desire to bring Ghanaian dancehall superstar Shatta Wale closer to the NPP, stating that if possible, he would work to get the musician to join the party.
In an interview, Boadu emphasized that the NPP, now in opposition, must strategically rebrand itself to capture the attention and trust of Ghana’s growing youth population. He noted that young people between 18 and 40 years old will make up nearly 60% of voters by 2028, and for the NPP to regain power, it must “enter their arena and speak their language.”
“If possible, I’ll get Shatta Wale to join the NPP,” he declared, adding that the move wouldn’t necessarily mean using the artist for hardcore campaigning. Instead, he believes Shatta Wale’s influence and appeal among the youth could be a powerful tool for spreading the NPP’s message through relatable and modern channels.
John Boadu also expressed concern that the NPP has lost significant presence in spaces like academia and intellectual circles, suggesting that the party must reconnect with groups that once played a key role in shaping its public image.
He stressed that the youth do not only seek appointments or positions but rather recognition and inclusion. “What the youth want is to feel that the party values and appreciates them,” Boadu said.
