According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred on Friday morning when the commercial vehicle was moving slowly in traffic. The thief reportedly reached through the window and tried to snatch a passenger’s phone but was swiftly caught by the alert driver’s mate.
The driver immediately stopped the vehicle, and with the help of passengers and other mates nearby, the suspect was grabbed before he could escape. He was given a brief “instant justice” before being handed over to the police.
An eyewitness said,
> “The guy thought he could just stretch his hand and take the phone, but the mate saw him. The driver stopped and they chased him until they caught him.”
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
This incident adds to the growing reports of petty theft in traffic, especially around busy intersections in Accra, where phone snatching has become a common concern for commuters.
Authorities have urged the public to be vigilant and keep their belongings secure while in traffic.
