The operation took place at a designated dumping site in Ho, where the cannabis—measuring a total of 47,530 kilograms—was publicly burned under strict security. The exercise followed a court order from the Ho Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Felix Datsomor, after the substances had served their purpose as evidence in an ongoing narcotics case.
The destruction was supervised by a combined team from the Ghana Police Service, Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Office of the Attorney-General, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Judicial Service. Media representatives were also present to ensure transparency.
Police officials described the move as a major step in Ghana’s war against drug trafficking, emphasizing that such large quantities of illegal substances pose a growing threat to public safety and security. The seizure originally occurred in 2022, linked to the case of The Republic vs. Yao Kwadwo (alias Wallako) and two others.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying anti-narcotics operations in the Volta Region, particularly along known smuggling corridors used by drug traffickers.
The public destruction, they said, sends a clear message: Ghana will not tolerate large-scale drug trafficking, and offenders will face the full force of the law.
