A 53-year-old man, identified as Adjei Owusu Afiriyie, has been arrested in the Ashanti Region for allegedly selling beverages suspected to be laced with cannabis to unsuspecting customers.
According to reports, the suspect was operating from a local drinking spot known as “De-Vicky’s,” where he allegedly served sobolo and locally distilled dry gin, popularly called akpeteshie, mixed with weed. The operation is believed to have been ongoing until police intervened on Thursday morning.
Law enforcement officers reportedly stormed the premises following intelligence gathered about the illegal activity. During the raid, officers retrieved seven barrels containing locally manufactured dry gin, fifty-six bottles of branded Alomo gin, one barrel filled with sobolo, and an additional gallon of sobolo. Authorities suspect that the drinks had been infused with cannabis before being sold to customers.
