• Achimota District Court Orders Temporary Release of 47 Impounded Motorbikes at Tessano Police Station

The Achimota District Court has granted an application for the temporary release of forty-seven (47) motorbikes that had been impounded and kept at the Tessano Police Station for several months and ten days.

According to the court’s directive, the release exercise is scheduled to take place from today, 18 December, and must be completed by 12 noon on 19 December. The order allows the affected riders to retrieve their motorbikes pending the final determination of the substantive case before the court.

The matter originates from an incident that occurred on 8 August, when about forty-seven delivery riders reportedly gathered at the Tessano Police Station to express support and solidarity for one of their colleagues. The rider’s motorbike had allegedly been seized and held for several days, a situation the group believed lacked clear justification. Their collective action subsequently led to police intervention and the impoundment of multiple motorbikes belonging to the riders.

Following legal representations, the court considered an application seeking relief for the riders, resulting in the present order for the conditional release of the seized motorbikes. The court, however, emphasized that the release does not terminate the case.

The main case has been adjourned to 13 January 2026, on which date the court is expected to commence witness testimony and substantive hearings. Until then, the parties involved are required to comply strictly with the court’s directions as the legal process continues.

The ruling has brought temporary relief to the affected delivery riders, many of whom rely on their motorbikes as their primary means of livelihood, while the court prepares to fully adjudicate the matter in the new year.
