World-renowned British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua was reportedly involved in a road traffic accident on Monday afternoon along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near Makun in Ogun State, Nigeria.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred shortly after 11:00 a.m. when a Lexus SUV, said to be conveying the boxer, collided with a stationary truck on the busy highway. The exact cause of the crash is yet to be officially determined, as investigations are ongoing.
The Lexus vehicle, bearing registration number KRD 850 HN, was reportedly part of a two-vehicle convoy, which also included a Pajero SUV carrying members of Joshua’s security detail. At the time of the crash, four occupants were said to be inside the Lexus.
A source who participated in the rescue operation and spoke to PUNCH Online disclosed that Anthony Joshua sustained minor injuries and was promptly assisted by emergency responders. Tragically, two occupants of the Lexus were confirmed dead at the scene.
“It was a two-vehicle convoy. Joshua was seated behind the driver, with another passenger beside him. There was also a passenger in the front seat. Sadly, the passenger beside the driver and the one sitting next to Joshua died on the spot,” the source said.
Emergency services and security personnel arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to manage traffic and assist victims. The injured were transported for medical attention, while the deceased were taken away by authorities.
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been issued by Anthony Joshua or his management team, and Nigerian authorities are yet to release a formal accident report.
