The Circuit Court in Winneba has sentenced a 45-year-old man to 10 years imprisonment for defiling a 13-year-old girl at Mumford, a fishing community near Apam in the Central Region. According to police reports, the convict lured the minor into his room under the pretext of sending her on an errand but instead committed the act. The victim later informed her parents, leading to the suspect’s arrest and prosecution. During the trial, the court found him guilty of defilement contrary to Section 101 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), as amended by Act 554. The presiding judge, in delivering the sentence, stressed the need to protect minors from sexual predators and serve as a deterrent to others. The convict will serve his sentence in a medium-security prison, beginning immediately. Community leaders in Mumford have expressed their disappointment and called for stronger education and vigilance to protect children from abuse. --- Source: Central Regional Police Command / Court Re...
